Born in the family of music critic Julius Korngold (1860―1945), already in early childhood he showed outstanding musical abilities, including in composition. In 1906, Gustav Mahler, after listening to a cantata composed by him, predicted his fame as a genius, and advised him to continue his education with Alexander von Zemlinsky... The peak of Korngold's popularity came after the end of the First World War - in the 1920s he wrote his largest works - the operas "Dead City" and "The Miracle of Eliana".
